The heart beat of a shitzhu should be a regular “lub-dub” at a rate of 120 to 160 per minute. Abnormalities would include irregularities in rhythm, a squish sound instead of a lub-dub, or a loud heart beat throughout the entire chest. Most heart problems have signs of exercise intolerance, episodic coughs, or fainting.
