What are the common prescribed doses of Prednisone and Cyclosporine for a medium-sized dog (45lbs.) that has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease?

My dog was anemic for months and it was determined that she wasn’t producing red blood cells. IBD was apparently the cause and she was prescribed Prednisone and Cyclosporine.

I am sorry your dog and you are having to deal with this disease. For a 45 pound dog the common dose of prenisone is 20 to 40 mg once per day. the dose of cyclosporine the dose is 60 to 140 mg twice daily. If they are being given together it would be prudent to start at the lower dose of each and slowly work up if needed to control the IBD. At the sanctuary we would also consider using gastro-protectants such as famotidine and carafate.
