Is there any relationship between hyperthyroidism and rectal bleeding in a cat? My 12-year-old male cat seems relatively healthy on the whole. I give him a 5 mg. methimazole tablet daily. He urinates and has bowel movements on a regular basis. However, his pink rear seems to be bloated and there is frequently a fecal crust on it after he''s had a bowel movement. When I remove the "aftermath" with water, I always find blood spots on the cloth. I also see blood spots on the floor or wherever he first sits down after a bowel movement. I do not see blood in the feces itself; I only see it in his rectal area. Is this something that needs a vet''s attention? And does it have any connection to his hyperthyroidism problem?

9 1/2 yr old Lab (service dog) is eating his own pooh.was told 1/2 t. Adolph’s meat tenderizer on kibble with bit of water would make his pooh smell repugnant to him and he would stop. Worked for a couple days -now he’s back at it. Don’t want to use it long term because it’s so salty. I am confined to wheelchair;husband had serious eye surgery ;must lie down on belly at least 2 more weeks. He used to clean it up immediately. Have to depend on kind neighbors to do it, so it accumulates a day or so.What can I do to help him, why is he doing it, could it be emotional or dietary?

Has lymph node and spots on lungs getting worse. On antibiotics for 2 months. Now on diflucan for valley fever, even though 2 tests have been negative. He eats well, but is tired and lethargic and wheezes. No fever now. The suggested a lung wash. Is that the same as endoscopy? Where would you go for someone that could do this risky procedure? What would you do? We need a diagnosis. Help.

My 12-lb. 10-yr-old chihuaua (Marlet) coughs. She's done it for years, but seems to be increasing. She seems otherwise healthy and active, has a good appetite and appropriate waste elimination. Her teeth aren't in great shape. She often coughs upon waking in the morning, but sometimes after playing. It's a deep, rasping cough, but she shows no signs of throat soreness. She often coughs several times and concludes with a "gag". Other times (but not always), she seems to be able to stop voluntarily when her name is called or if she's offered a treat. She's seen a veterinarian for other things, lameness, chiropractic, bee sting, when her heart has been checked with no mention of problem by the vet.

My wife and I recently lost our cat to what we believe was a heart attack. To have a cat live with us for 8 years, then suddenly die without warning or symptom has been devastating. We want to get another kitten but are concerned the same thing might happen. From what I've read, it seems like it's unavoidable and if your cat is predisposed to have the disease, there's nothing that can be done. Is this the case? Any idea why this disease is so prevalent among cats?

Rescued female chihuahua age 4-5, weighs 3 pounds and have had her for 3 years. Vet recommends having her spayed as a way to protect her in the future relative to other diseases. Please share your opinion also.

I have a male and female dog, when she was in season I kept them seperated -- but on one occassion my 4 yr old left the gate open and they were roaming the house together for approximately an hour before we noticed . Prior to this although she was definitely passed the bleeding stage of her season my male didn't really seem too interested in her, what are the chances that they would have mated?

She has been on steroids and bronchodialators for years. It seems the steroid (prednisilone) has stopped being effective. Can I just keep her on 1.25 mg terbutaline (bronchodilator) daily, without the added steroid?

Rowdy is approximately 14 years old; has been with me 13. About 2 years ago, he began losing weight. He's short-haired, probably Labrador mix. He was weighing 60-65 lbs. but is probably closer to 55 now. He's been wormed annually in June. He gets immunization shots (5-1) and rabies shots. He lives on 1-acre with me, 2 horses, 3 chihuahuas, a pit bull, a shepherd mix and a Catahoula Cur, none of whom are off the property except for rabies shots or injuries. Although he has maintained his appetite, there's no "meat" on his bones. He has lost strength in his hindquarters, although he is still able to rise, lope off and "hold his own" among the other dogs. He gets 1 or 2 cans of Purina Pro Plan dog food each morning and I'm experimenting with high-calorie supplements. His urination and bowel movements are regular and he does not drink an extraordinary amount of water (admittedly, he is not observed every minute of the day and has free access to both dry kibble and water). Other than a veterinarian's exam, can I do anything else to promote healthy weight gain?

In all your rescued cats have you ever come across an Inflammed Eye Socket? I have been told by many vets that my Cat's illness is a mystery and they don't know much about Inflamed eye sockets. My Cat is Spayed 16ys (in Dec). All teeth pulled in July 2019 due to gingivostomatitis. Inside Mouth cleared. Fine for month. Started pawing a mouth after eat/drinking. Blood test show some bacteria in Kidney. Treated with Veraflox. Still pawing. Did An Ultra Sound/Normal except the bacteria which has since cleared up. Still pawing. Her left eye beginning to protrude out. DID A CT-SCAN Nov 2019. No tumors. What it showed was inflammation of the left EYE SOCKET and UPPER LEFT SINUS AREA. Meds: Prednisolone 5 mg/24 hr. Buprenex 0.1 ml 8-12 hrs for pain. The last Blood Test/All normal. From pawing she dug a hole in her cheek area. While at FoxFeed in CC yesterday they recommended I try Vetericyn Plus, for wound. 1st app. last night. She has always been drinking and eating through all of this. She is a fighter and I don't want to just give up on her. In all your years of rescuing have you ever come across this type of Socket Inflammation? At this point I sure could use some of your wisdom and insight. Thank you for your time.

Our Baxter needs to lose 10 lbs per the Vet. My husband and I disagree strongly on how much to feed him. Can you advise us, please. He is currently getting 3/4 cup of diet food with green beans and 1/4 cup pumpkin at each meal but is obviously hungry. I want to give more dry food. Am I wrong? He is a 7 year old Aussie rescue who has just started a 30 minute walk per day.

The babies were 12 weeks old when I found a new home for the mother. They have all seen a vet and he says they are very healthy. The mother has been away from the babies for 6 days but her nipples are still swollen and she seems full of milk. Should this be a concern? Should I take back to the vet?

It was so bad I had to take up the carpet and replace it with a laminate flooring. She always went in the corners, so she picked her spots. Now that she no longer has her carpet corners she goes on my throw rugs. I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes which are scooped daily and changed weekly. My other cat does not do this. Why does she do this?
