I just got a post card from my vet reminding us that our 4 yr old Lab is due his DHLPP & CVK. Are both of these shots necessary on a yearly basis?

Most current researchers agree that yearly 1 for all diseases are probably not required. Indeed there may be some long term consequences to over vaccinating. Combination vaccines as you describe are more convenient but are probably not necessary every year. We generally vaccinate with a series as a puppy, booster at one year, then vaccinate every three years with the combination product.

Check with your veterinarian regarding the prevalence of specific diseases in your area to see if a yearly booster for some of these diseases are needed on a yearly basis and if so get just those vaccines.
