Doctor, My l3 year old Shepherd-Vizsla mix, 75 lbs, had a calcium reading of 13, scale of 11 high normal, in 2014. Today, she has a calcium reading of 16. What could be the cause of this, and what can be done about it? Thank you.

Hypercalcemia can be caused by a number of problems, such as cancer, Cushing’s Disease, hyperparathyroidism, and chronic renal disease. Your veterinarian will need to run additional tests to define the problem and make a treatment plan.
