What type of food do you recommend for a mini schnauzer about 11 lbs allergies to chicken and grains (rabbit). Small kibble is best. We did the saliva/hair test through Glacier Peaks.

There are a number of hypoallergenic diets available over the counter that may be helpful. The key is to look on the ingredient label and look for those foods with a single unique protein source, such as salmon or duck and a single unique carbohydrate source, such as potato. Make sure there are no grains. There are two veterinary diets from Purina that may be acceptable. DRM would be my first choice if the signs your pet exhibits are dermatological, ie itchy skin. If your pets signs are more intestinal, I would recommend HA. Both are available only through your veterinarian. Any diet change should be made by slowly introducing the new diet mixed with your pets old food. Once on the new diet it could take a month before you see full results. This is a challenging process to find the right food. My personal pet, Cooper, had intestinal issues with most foods, we found through feeding trials he did best on Beneful. I am sure with persistence you will find the best food for your pet.
