Dog with Allergies

Hi, I have a mix breed female dog I rescued about a year ago. She seems to be maltese, jack russell, poodle mix. From the start I knew she had some allergy issues with her ears and was given meds for that. But after having her with us awhile I realize she also had food or skin allergies. The vet said to keep her on fish and potato, lamb and rice, or duck and potato food and see if that solved the problem. During the past year I have tried all 3 for at least 2 mo. Intervals and after as short time she returns to licking her feet obsessively and her eyes drain and water lots, like a poodle. Her eyes seem to be the biggest problem for her. They just water constantly and look sort of swollen and discolored around the edges on the white hair. Any other suggestions for what i can do for her. Like eye drops or other foods or additives that might help. Thank you.

The use of unique protein and unique carbohydrate foods are a good start. There are other types so keep trying. We use bison and brown rice food. At the sanctuary we also use hemp oil to help these type of skin problems. We do sometimes have to resort to the use of prednisone to resolve the severe inflammation. In addition we use a system called Heska skin testing to define the allergy and develop a hypo sensitizing serum to treat the allergy. Ask your veterinarian about this type of allergy testing.
