Our 12 year old cat, Donci, salivates a sticky substance and won’t eat- he was diagnosed with FIV two years ago with “incurable” sores in his mouth but has been kept active and agile with 1 mg of medrol every second day. What can we do for him? Thank you.

The mouth sores may be getting out of hand. Sometimes use of antibiotics in addition to the medrol is needed on a cyclic basis. Also the use of metacam for pain may be helpful. A last resort treatment is to pull the teeth. This may seem drastic, but I have seen it help some previously incurable cases.
