Hemp oil for a cat with Intestinal Lymphoma
My cat has been diagnosed with advanced intestinal lymphoma. He has been on and off prednisolone for 6 months, is currently back on and is deteriorating rapidly. He is still eating well, grooming, can get around ok, and shows interst in the fish tank. I don’t want to put him through chemo, I just want to keep him as pain-free as possible. I read another post that said 1 tsp daily of hemp oil is the given dose for cancer patients. Does that apply to cats as well?
Hi Dr. Brown
Two of my three chihuahuas have recently started getting brittle fur on their backs only. Is this caused by winter conditions? They are inside dogs, and I’d like to know what is the best supplement to feed them to soften their fur. Thanks
I have a question about…exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).
Our now 10 year old female German Shepherd has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). Our dog had very loose stools and started losing weight. Since that time we put her on Pancrezyme and she has seemed to maintain her weight over the next 2 years. Recently though, she is losing some weight, stools are soft, and she has been very itchy. We have increased the amount of her pancrezyme to help her digest her food. How much powder should one give their pet? Is there a possibility of too much and what would the signs be if the dog takes in too much of the powder. In addition, the costs of this product are pretty high and we were wondering if there any major differences in the brands? I found a lady online who spends her life on this topic and packages the Pancreatin powder from the American Laboratories in Nebraska. Can you tell me if obtaining this pancreatin powder is really any different that the name brands. The USP Units for the Lipase, Protease, and Amylase from the lab in Nebraska are very similar to the name brands. Can you give me any advice on whether there are major differences in the products, how much power to give, and whether there are any special foods that will digest easier for our shepherd? I assume diet is more important now than ever… Any information would be extremely helpful…
Sincerely

I have a question about… Canine lymphoma
My friends found a Mastiff/Rott mix dog wondering around Acton a couple of months ago they tried to find the owners but they couldn’t keep him so I took him rather than having him taken to the pound. I’ve had him for about a month and his neck became swollen so I took him to the local vet. They tested him and found he has lymphoma. He was really sick and I thought he wasn’t going to make so I didn’t even consider chemotherapy but now he is doing very well and since the vet thinks he is still young (about 2 years old they think), i would like to get him chemo. He hates riding in cars and I have to lift him in and he’s over 100 lbs. do you know if there is any home care or somewhere near Acton where he can get Chemotherapy. Thanks for your help
I have a question about…diet
Hi Pet Vet,I feed my dog WELLNESS(brand) whitefish & sweet potatoes, when I take him for walks he’s goes to bathroom
at least 4 times a day. It’s starts out regular than turns mushy, not runny. I started him on this food a few months ago due to flaking and scratching his coat. Its for sensitive skin and digestive system. Ziggy, my dog is 10 month old mixed. Other than that, there’s no problems. Is this normal.
I have a question about my dog’s hot spots
Hi pet vet!!
My golden retriever, Sergeant, is about 8 and half years old. Recently he has been getting these big hot spots on the lower part of legs. Today we noticed that Sergeant’s leg looks like it’s a little swollen and he has been moving very slowly. We are planning on taking him to the vet at the end of the week. Is this something that we should be concerned about ?
Nail trimming question
10 year old shepperd/rottie mix doesn’t like to get nails trimmed. I’ve been using an electric nail file such as the ones at a nail salon and it works although I need someone to constantly feed him treats to keep him busy until I’m finished. Nail clipper never worked..he would bite. Any other suggestions?
Urinary tract infection….
Dr. Brown, my kitty was treated last month for u.t.i. and is now solely on the c/d dried and canned food but beforehand always got greenies and other cat treats and still begs for them now but my vet had told me not to give him any treats and didn’t know of any that would be safe to give now so i wanted to see if you knew of any that would be ok?
I have a question about…diabetic cat
I have a 15 yr. old cat who needs insulin daily and his poor ears are scarred and sore from taking the blood to test his glucose. Is there any other place I can use to get his blood for the glucose test? I really hope so!!
