What can I give 2 cats to calm them down. They are afraid of everyone, but will come out to eat. They can get in the dropped ceiling, do not want handled. I have found a cat rescue that will take them, but I need to get them into the carriers. I am 82 and it is not easy. They need to be around people, they are very sweet but don’t want handled. They are only 3 years old, spayed, all their shots, never been out side since then. Thank you.
TOXIC INSECT BITES? We have found brown and black widow spiders and dead bees around the yard. Our dog has twice gotten extremely ill around Thanksgiving, as if she were on her last legs, could not stand, yet after $1000 vet bills, still could not diagnose problem. My husband wants Terminex to treat the yard but I fear that would even we worse. Do any dogs at DELTA ever get bitten by spiders or scorpions of have allergic reactions of bee stings or bites? What should we do?
Always wheezing and itching bad. Our vet recommends benedryl in between meds according to how bad. Soon the season will be starting and the poor dog. [Sheltie mix, border collie]. I believe in your organization and religously want to help w/the animals on a monthly basis.
I have been a supporter of DELTA Rescue for many years. I had posted on DELTA Rescue’s facebook question about feral cats.I trapped a feral mom cat and her 4 kittens in my home. They have all been fixed thanks to my husband’s determination. She is definitely feral and has been with us in our house for 3 years now. My concern is what if she becomes ill? I don’t want to wait till she’s at death’s door to be able to grab her (if I can, even then), I want her to live a long life with us. I have been to your sanctuary in Acton and noticed the colonies of ferals. How do you take care of them when they become ill? Hissaphis is healthy at the moment but I need to have some plans in place. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
Hi Dr. Brown, I am so confused about what is going on with my cat. He is a 2 1/2 yr old ragdoll and it all started a couple of weeks ago. He had developed a little laryngitis and then it woould sometimes sound scratchy and hoarse, maybe for just 2 days or so. Maybe a day or so after that he would cough and gag like he was trying to bring up a hair ball. It was happening everyday so I changed my litter which my vet advised me to do. It was fairly a new litter I had changed too. In a day or so the coughing and gagging stopped, so I thought problem solved. The litter was a natural wood litter. About a week after that it started again and it was happening everyday, once a day. I had xrays done and they were normal. It just recently stopped for 2 days and then it happened again today , lasting about 10 seconds. His tongue was slightly sticking out . It sort of looks like he is trying to vomit or spit something up. There is no saliva. He is eating, drinking urinating, and moving his bowels normally and playing. Can the laryngitis have caused this, are they somehow related? I am getting his heart checked this week to rule that out. Could it be asthma? He is not wheezing or anything when he runs and plays. Seems to happen mostly when he is relaxed or just walking around. I am at my wits end. Please help me. Any advise?
Do you keep building those straw houses for dogs and keep expanding – I noticed you now have 115 acres.

We recently acquired a Persian kitten that was abandoned next to my girlfriend’s car while she had our dog at the vet. Initially she was covered in fungus(ringworm), missing lots of hair, way under weight and all around a mess. We nursed her back to health and through a vet prescribed regiment of shampoo, topical medication, and sporanox(oral) have mostly eliminated the fungus. She is approximately 8-9 weeks old and about 2 lbs. She is as active as any kitten, has no problems eating, and seems to be your standard small cat in terms of personality.
Unfortunately she also exhibits minor cold symptoms. Sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose. Though this is not uncommon in Persians I am just including it as part of the symptoms.
The scary part is she has two giant sores/lumps in the back of her mouth on the roof of her mouth. They are almost exactly symmetrical and about half an inch in diameter. They are round and yellowish in color. Initially they looked like ulcers and now they are raised in the middle. She has seen multiple vets who have no idea what it is.
Initially we thought it may have been a result of the sporanox as it can cause mouth sores in humans however she has been off that for a week and it only seems to have gotten worse.
She has tested negative for feline leukemia and does not appear to have FIV or FCV. We are extremely worried and very attached to this kitten.
Just to reiterate her symptoms:
Cold symptoms: runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing
Two sores on the roof of her mouth at the back by her throat.
Sores are yellow lumps with red around them and seem to be symmetrical and about half an inch across.
If this rings any sort of a bell for you or if you could point me in the direction of someone who might know, I would really appreciate it.
