I have 3 small dogs – a 6.5 year old yorkie poo (<6 lbs), an 11 year old shih tzu (13 lbs) and a 12.5 year old maltese (13 lbs). As they share food, what is the best option that covers all their needs. They get a multi vitamin (Pet tab) every day.
Answer from Dr. Gaylord Brown:
At the sanctuary we feed a puppy food to the young dogs until they are about one year of age. After that we feed the same adult food to the dogs. We are presently feeding a salmon and potato diet. We feel a unique protein and carbohydrate source is best for good skin and bowel health. We use Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon Recipe.
I have a 12 year old shitz-u who has been vomiting since she was a puppy. I have been very careful with not changing food and she gets no table food. I have consulted my vet and the only thing he has tried is an ant acid which only helps once in a while. I have tried grain free treats as I think the treats are the culprit I break them all Into tiny pieces because to many means puking the next day. Since the past year she seems to be puking even more. Not sure what else to try and I haven’t changed to senior diet because I don’t want to upset her stomache. Any suggestions.
Answer from Dr. Gaylord Brown:
It is possible she has a motility disorder, food allergy, or a gastric sphincter problem. A motility study to determine stomach emptying time would be valuable information; as would allergy testing. Motility problems can be helped with drugs, the gastric sphincter can be loosened with surgery, and food allergies can be treated by diet. You need a proper diagnosis!
What should the post operative treatment be for a 13 year old dog who had 7 teeth extracted 9 days ago and still isn’t eating normally?
Currently he is in a vet clinic on an IV (without pain medication) and taking medication for a stomach ulcer for previous and continued use of previcox.
What damage of internal organs is likely if he doesn’t begin eating normally soon.
We have a 13yr, old female spayed Australian Cattle dog/Queensland Heeler who weighs 81 pounds, but used to weighing 70 pounds. She is a lot active and has arthritis, but is on anti-inflammatory. She eats 2 cups of Natural Balance Vegan kibble daily, equaling about 700 calories. Without changing her type of food, how can we reduce her weight? Can she safely eat less than 2 cups/700 calories daily?
What is the best vitamin supplement for dogs?
I have 4 small healthy dogs ages 3, 6, 10 and 11. I am also getting a puppy of a large breed. They all eat (daily) chicken and rice with fresh vegetables, all organic. Can you recommend a general vitamin that I can give them?

My elderly cat needs to gain weight. He was having trouble keeping his food down. But now he is on cerenia and his appetite has improved. He is keeping his food down, most of the time. However, he is still too thin. He really isn’t gaining any of his weight back. I can feel his bones when I pet him. Any ideas on how to fatten him up a bit? I have been feeding him as much can food as he wants. Dry food is always available in a continuous feeder.
He will be 15 in Jan. TC is a Maine Coon who use to be a healthy 18 lbs. He now weighs 13 lbs.
My Lab, Zeus, is 12 years old. He is walking slower now and sometimes has a hard time climbing stairs. He still enjoys going for walks and still takes laps in our pool. What vitamin or medication would help his walking?
I have a four year old cat who ate dry & wet food. Now he hardly eats the wet food. I have tried all kinds & flavors of the wet food but he mostly just eats dry…I have him on a premium “lite”, he needs to lose a few pounds. He seems healthy…does all normal cat things, plays with our other cat etc.Is it bad for cats to just eat dry food?
I have a rescued feral Turkish Angora cat who spent first 5 weeks in bathroom, fed wet food only. After six months, now very affectionate with me, still gobbles food; when I have tried dried food, swallows kibbles whole, so I only give him occasional soft treats which I break up and feed him from my hand. Still can’t pick him up, and he hides when anyone comes, but he’s gradually beoming more socialized.
My question is – is it OK to just feed him wet food (I vary IAMS, WELLNESS, etc) or if dry food could be added between meals, OK to swallow whole?
I am having alkaline water from the Carlsbad Spas artesian wells delivered to my home. Is it OK to give this water to my cats as well?
Also wondering about using it in the hummingbird feeder. I hate to allow any living thing to consume the San Diego tap water.
