I have a friend who has a male chihuaha who was a puppy breeder mill dog. When she got him he weighed 19 lbs (should be about 7). She has tried desperately to help him lose weight, but he will eat anything that he can get in his mouth, including wood and glass. I know these things are not fattening, but they are dangerous. He broke down a gate last night and ate three cups of cat food within seconds. This was after he had had his dinner. Any ideas what she can do? Thank you.
because of all the rain we have had, we have small ants on the floor, on counter, in cabinets. 1 person says to use ground pepper and sprinkle it around, another says to sprinkle ground cinnamon. We have a house cat and I want to get rid of the ants but not my baby (cat). What can I use that is safe around pets.
I just picked my dog up from emergency surgery. He had 3 extractions and had an abscess above one tooth. There is a small mass that the vet thought was related to the abscess on his hard pallet near the abscess, but as a precaution wants to monitor it in case it is cancerous. He had ALP elevated at 274 IU/L and was prescribed Tramadol which in humans does effect the liver. I am concerned that maybe this may not be the best pain medication for him. Is there a natural pain medicine I could give him? Would hemp oil be a potential candidate for the small mass on his pallet and or his pain? Also would an essential oil such as Thieves oil (diluted) help with the swelling and draining of the abscess?
Dear Dr. Brown, Do you have an opinion on whether it is better to give a Chow a haircut in summer or leave the natural coat and brush regularly to remove the undercoat? We used to have a haircut by a groomer (not shaved) but I read in some Chow books that the natural coat actually insulates from all weather extremes. Because of this and because he often got ear infections after the groomer, last summer we let his full coat stay and I brushed him regularly. This is So. California, and he is black, but he did not seem to be less comfortable than other summers. I would love to have your advice.

Do you have any experience with Sabaceous Adentitis? If so, I’m wondering what you do/use for the pets to keep their coats and minimize the problems. I have a Havanese with SA and tho I manage with oils and special shampoos, she is now getting horrible eye rim problems as the black skin around her eyes is sloughing off and creating problems. I keep asking my vet for cream to rub around her eyes and all she says to use are eye drops which do not help the problem.
My question concerns the diagnosis I just received on my nine year old springer spaniel regarding chronic renal failure. He just had a blood test and a urinary test that confirmed it. He had a blood test last year and was fine.Is he able to have a normal life as long as he has the medication and prescription food?

I’M A HUGE SUPPORTER OF DELTA….and have been for a long time.
I’m open to any feedback…and willing to try anything else without surgery…I won’t put her through that.
She is a fighter..I’ve also put rugs with rubber backing on hardwood floors…
Gotta go…and she if she will go out on desk as I hoist her rear up and she walks forward.
Judith Collins and Sheeba..
(she was my miracle gift and I don’t want to lose her..as you can tell.
I’ve been tracking my dog’s appetite and she’s eatting very little-approx 1/4C a day and she’s normally 45 lbs. The dog food she gets is a premium, holistic brand where they know the source of the meat. It’s a duck and sweet potato blend. The past few days her breathing has been a bit labored and she’s taking shallow breaths.
She still has BM and drinks water.
She has full access to the backyard during the AM and PM hours and gets a long walk once a week. This past time she seemed lethargic.
She tested HW negative last month, but I haven’t put her on any HW meds since we’re in urban SoCal and there haven’t been mosquitos out.
She does have a vet appt. soon but what do you suspect?
What is the best vitamin supplement for dogs?
I have 4 small healthy dogs ages 3, 6, 10 and 11. I am also getting a puppy of a large breed. They all eat (daily) chicken and rice with fresh vegetables, all organic. Can you recommend a general vitamin that I can give them?
feline inflammatory bowel disease. Will the new cure for human IBD, fecal transplantation, work for cats with IBD? New articles are saying there is a 90% cure rate for humans and Mayo Clinic says they are looking into the fecal transplantation now for other diseases such as celiac, diabetes, obesity, autism, allergies, and arthritis. I have 2 cats with IBD and several cats and one dog with allergies. It would be great if they could all be cured with this new procedure. Also, does anyone out there have any more 5 mg prednisolone tablets I could purchase for my 2 cats with IBD? The prednisone doesn’t work and they hate the liquid form from the compounding pharmacy.
Enter your question here. How can I help a feral cat I have had for 10 years who is not eating. I cannot get it to the vet as it is too wild to get into a carier and once when I did get it to the vet, he couldn’t get hold of it to exam it. This has been the case for two months now and I am very worried
Please help. I have tried every kind of food but no improvement.
My cat is sneezing and seems to be congested. I would say she has a cold. She is a house cat. She does not go outside. Do cats get colds? What can I do to relieve her cold symptoms (sneezing, congestion, and a pink to red nose that she keeps licking when she sneezes. Thank you for all your help.
cassie is a 10 year old Labrador Retreiver who has developed a stiffining in her left leg. Her paws seem in no pain or when massasging her leg or paw, no reaction or pulling back. When this condition arose, we immediately took her to a vet who put her on 100mg Rimidyl. Now vet requests x-rays at $155 and sedation at $165. This is expensive for us on retirement. Cassie jumps and leaps and tugs on her leash happily when out in the snow (we live in Ohio.) When in the snow, she is as active as ever. Any suggestions on another procedure not involving putting her under sedation? I contribute regularly to DELTA Rescue.
I have a very expensive GSD who is 2 years old. He has dealt with fistulas, allergies and is now on skin meds Atopia, and 2 other prescriptions. We will learn if my husband is allergic to him in a few days. I don’t know if there would be anyone to adopt him in this condition. In your experience, what does it cost to treat this skin condition long term, and the threat of fistulas again?
