sniffing

i have a american bulldog, who i think , he thinks, he;s a blood hound, all he does is sniff,,,24 /7,, he sniff everything, and the family members constantly,, don;t know why???? or how to break him form it??? help??? plus for the 1st time ever, i have to board him at the end of the month,, for a wk,, he;s never been away from the family, think he has anxiety,, has to be right next to you,, should i be worried,, i feel so bad i have to do this, but i have no choice,,, thank u

    The sniffing may be a manifestation of the anxiety you are already aware of. The drug, amitriptylline may be helpful, as well as an exercise program. As far as going to the kennel, it may be wise to take him for one day,prior to leaving him for a week. This will teach him you are going to return. Additionally, if he is over anxious on this one day trial, you may want to consider the drug Clomicalm when he stays for the week.
