should i give over counter remedies for cat’s diareah

took a stray in. took to vet to remove a growth (lump)that opened up. it was removed and sticthed 2 times(first sticthes came out) In a 2 wk. period they gave her a rabies shot, 4-in-shot, treatment for fleas, tapeworm shot(praziquantel),clavamox, metronidazole, metacam and she has had diareah everyday for2 wks. Will this diareah stop after all these meds get out of her system or can we give her something over the counter. Please help! She drinks lots of water(Always has, ever since we took her in 6 wks ago.)She also has a good appetite. they said she is about 13 yr. and has a slight heart murmer. we have no money for further evaluation. she only weights 7 lbs.

  • Dr. Gaylord Brown:

It sounds like there may be other health problems that need to be evaluated. The drugs may be contributing to the diarrhea. In a situation like this digestive enzymes in the food and probiotics are sometimes helpful. Discuss their use with your veterinarian. Most over the counter anti-diarrhea medications are toxic to cats, so I do not really recommend them.
