Rescued Dog

A year ago last june, my husband and I adopted a 3-year-old American Eskimo. He was one of the puppy mill dogs from Wenatchee, WA. They said he would take a while to adjust, but it has been almost 18 months, and he will have nothing to do with anyone unless I’m around. He will come to me if I’m in bed, or sitting at the computer, but nowhere else in the house. He has a dog door, and free run of the back yard. He loves being outside, but I cannot walk with him. He runs away from me. Do you think this something that he will gradually get over, or has this distrust been bread into him.

This was not bred into him; rather it was due to way he was kept as a young dog. You need help from an animal communicator and an animal behaviorist. They can devise a plan to slowly gain this dog’s trust. It will be worth the effort. This poor dog just does not know how to act! Start by rewarding for the simplest of things, like coming by you when at the computer. Have others in the family do so as well. Reward any effort he makes to come close and not turn away.
