Possible acl tear
A month ago our 9 yr. old mixed dog came up on three legs. Four yrs ago she tore her acl and had surgery to repair it. Our vet seems to think she tore the other leg. He did no X-ray, just an exam and wanted to do surgery again. I chose to put her on Rimadyl and very limited activity. She seems just fine now. Any ideas as to her injury and should we continue this conservative therapy.? Thank you.

If she has no symptoms while on rimadyl it is unlikely to be a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. She may have strained the ligament. You should start leash walking and try to build up the strength in the leg. It is common for a dog to rupture their second ACL at sometime in their life if they rupture one. However, if your dog is not limping now, I would continue conservative management.
