Please help our dog and cat

We have a 10 year old Yorkshire Terrier (Henley) and due to a move we now have new guest, a 3 year old “mostly” Siamese cat (Apollo). The dog (Henley) is having a difficult time with this. A few encounters in the last month have produced nothing short of the expected chaos. Barrier gate keeps Henley out of the room where a “very mellow” Apollo stays. When will Henley’s barking, yelping, incessant itching etc end? How can and will this work?

If Henley has been the only pet in the house his whole life this will be a very hard sell for him but it is not impossible. The barrier is a good start as long as there is the ability for visual communication and sniffing. Ignore bad behavior and reward quiet behavior on Henley’s part. Eventually you should be able to have controlled interaction with Henley on a leash; we do not want anyone scratched or bitten! This will lead to eventual unmonitored cohabitation. It has been my experience that almost anything is possible as long as they are done in small steps.
