Kidney transplants are available at a limited number of facilities throughout the United States, primarily University Veterinary Schools. There are a few private institutions that preform the procedure. Generally, the donor is a shelter cat that then becomes a part of your household after giving up one of its kidneys. Not all cats with kidney failure are eligible for transplants. Your regular veterinarian should be able to refer you to the facility closest to your home that does this surgery for a consultation.
Remember that a second opinion for such a serious condition is always a good idea.
