I have a question about… vitamin A toxicity
I often feed my 5 1/2 pound Yorkie a chicken liver with his dog food for dinner. I read about vitamin A toxicity and am wondering how much liver and how often he can be fed it without causing him harm. Thank you

It would be difficult to feed enough chicken livers consistently to cause Vit A toxicity. To be toxic there needs to be 113,600 IU Vit A/lb of food consumed on a dry matter basis over a matter of months. An ounce of chicken liver has about 1900 IU Vit A or 30400 IU per pound. However, I do not advocate feeding excess liver as it may discourage your dog from eating a balanced diet. A small treat daily should be adequate.
