I have a cat with stomatitis. She gets prednisone and antibiotic injections. Only lasts about 1-2 weeks now. She has also had some teeth extractions. The vet lasered the sores last time and she is worse. Any suggestions?
Answer from Dr. Gaylord Brown:
This is a condition common to cats and we battle it daily at the sanctuary! Control rather than cure is most common. In cases where corticosteroids no longer helps we have used modified cyclosporine orally to help control the condition. In extreme conditions we have resorted to total teeth extractions, but this does not guarantee control. Even this drastic measure often needs cyclic antibiotics and steroids or cyclosporine to keep under control.
