peeling paw pads
My son’s French Bulldog (age 4 yrs.) previously was diagnosed with intestinal blockage and now only eats duck and boiled potato. This summer her paws developed boils which bled when they broke, after which the flesh would peel off. She wasn’t able to walk & my son carried her everywhere. He bought sock-sneakers for her & now she’s able to get around. They live in NY city, but she’s taken to the dog park on a regular basis. What would cause all her paws to do this? An alergy was suggested, but to what? She’s been on the duck/potato diet for well over two years, so I don’t believe it could be diet related.

This may be an auto immune issue, a form of lupus, or some other allergy. Don’t be so sure that the food is not involved. Most food allergies are developed over time and two years would be enough time for this to happen. I recommend having tests for auto immune issues, biopsies of the affected skin, and Heska testing for both inhalant allergans and food allergans.
