I have a question about…my four and a half year old american Pit Bull?

My four and a half year old pit bulls feet at the bottom are starting to get worn out they are dry and they split. She spends a lot of time cleaning them. Does this mean she’s getting old? And at what age are they considered old? Also, what is there life expectancey?

Thank you Erica from Richmond, Va

  • Dr. Gaylord Brown:

We have pit bulls at the sanctuary that routinely live to 15 years, some beyond. The cracking feet may be the signs of an allergy or an essential fatty acid deficiency. Have the feet looked at by your veterinarian.
