I have a question about… my dogs cough
Enter your question here My dog is a 13 year poodle, weighing 14 pounds. He has recently developed a cough. Usually when he moves his position when sleeping or sitting and especially when he barks and exerts himself. He begins to cough and it seems as though he is trying to clear phlem out of his throat. He does not vomit anything.

These symptoms are most consistent with a heart problem. I recommend a cardiac work up immediately. There are many successful treatments for heart problems in dogs. They do not cure the problem, but they control the symptoms and prolong a quality life.
