what does it mean when a dog sniffs around than hides under the table or the bed.

I consider this normal canine behavior. Dogs are naturally “den” creatures. Being under a table or bed gives them a sense of safety. My jack russell’s favorite place to sleep is under an end table in our living room. He preferentially goes there in the evening when my wife and I are relaxing in that room.
