I have a question about… my dog

Gus is a Golden Retriever approximately 10 years old. I rescued him from the Humane Society 2 1/2 years ago, so I don’t know any health history. However since we’ve had him, he has received all his shots and goes to the vet when he needs to. Pretty healthy guy. Lately he has been panting a lot. We’re in Michigan, so it is cold so the weather isn’t the problem. Could he be in distress or hurting? He doesn’t seem to be hurting, limping or anything else. He isn’t acting strange or different, just a lot of panting when he is awake. Should I be concerned?

This may be a sign of a heart problem or a lung problem. I would recommend having radiographs done of the chest. Your veterinarian may also recommend an ultrasound of the heart. Treatments are available to make your pet more comfortable.
