I have a question about… leaving my pet

I have a small Shih-Tzu mix. I am home with her quite a bit, but when I do have to leave, even for short periods of time, she will urinate and or defecate on the floor. I think she is doing this out of spite because I leave her. Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior. I have tried keeping her in a confined area (no crate) in the kitchen, left an old shirt of mine, but this doesn’t always seem to help. Any suggestions?

This is a form of separation anxiety. There are medications available from your veterinarian which can help this disorder. Clomicalm in combination with Dog Appeasement Pheromones has been shown to be quite effective. Leaving a radio or television on in their area can also be helpful.
