Is it Arthritis
I adopted my dog when he was 6 months old from a shelter. He is now 7 years old. He is a mixed breed (Ausie mix)don’t know what he is mixed with but he is extreamly smart and I use him in pet therapy for the elderly. He limps now, his hind legs/hips seem to really bother him. I was told it was arthritis by our local vet, however he did not run any test to confirm. I noticed he is more stiff after laying down for awhile and definately worse in the winter (snows and is on average below or at 0 degrees here). I give him a supplement recomended and one tylenol everyday, this seems to help. I am concerned it may be more then just arthritis and he may have something else wrong that may be corrected (hips)? The vet won’t run any tests and insists it is just arthritis. This is a very small town and I would have to drive 250 or more miles to next town to get a second opinion. If it is in fact arthritis what is his life expectency and what do you suggest for treatment? How does arthritis affect him? Thank you for your input.
