I have a question about…Fatty Liver Disease

My young female cat was lethargic for some time, I didn’t think to much of it as she was still eating. On the weekend I took her to my local vet. He took one look at her and told me to take her to the animal hospital. She was jaundiced. After a few nights stay and much testing was later diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease.

How could she have gotten this? Are there was of preventing it from coming back in the future? She’s an indoor cat, I thought she would be pretty safe from getting diseases.

Fatty liver disease is caused by infiltration of the liver cells with fat. Being indoors does not protect your cat from this problem. Obese cats are much more prone to this than are slim cats. Feeding a lower fat, higher fiber diet helps to prevent this disorder.
