I have a question about…diabetic cat
I have a 15 yr. old cat who needs insulin daily and his poor ears are scarred and sore from taking the blood to test his glucose. Is there any other place I can use to get his blood for the glucose test? I really hope so!!
Thank You…M.J. Berling

How often are you testing the blood glucose? We have used the ears successfully for many years without undo soreness or scarring. We use the small lancets sold to people for testing their blood glucose. Other thin skin areas can be used, such as the top of the feet, but the hair in these areas can interfere with the blood test. Try moving around the ear flap and alternating ears back and forth to minimize sticking the same area daily.
The cat I asked about sometimes has to be checked twice a day, he has other health issues…high liver enzymes & inflammatory bowel disease causing some eating and digestive problems which seem to affect his glucose level. If we use the top of his feet should we shave the area first? His ears are not in good shape. have always alternated ears and moved around the ear flap but there is scarring now. Thanks for any information.
