I have a question about… Diabetes

We are having a hard time regulating our girl’s glucose. We take our own curves. Our vet is not concerned about her highs any more. My vet has put her insolent up and down 4 times in 5 months and I think she has given up on trying to help regulate her. Her last words of advice were to wait 3 months and do another curve. Since then we are trying to tweet her food and we looked up the amount of food she should be getting for her weight and figured out she is getting 54 cals too much so we reduced her food intake and will do another curve on Thursday. She had gained 1 1/2 lbs. since she was diagnosed. Would you have a calculator to determine how many calories she should have in a day? She weighs 15.8lbs but should be 12lbs.
She is on Hills w/d She was on 3/4 of a cup dry and 1/2 can wet total in the day
June 24th we changed her food to 1/4 of cup dry and the whole can wet total day
I am thinking she is getting 54cal to much food would that makes a difference?
June 30/11
6:50 16.2/292
8:50 9.9/178
10:50 6.6/119
12:50 8.3/149
2:50 17.3/311
4:50 23.9/430
6:50 25.6/461
I am from Canada US conversion is on the right.
She gets 4 unit twice a day
We have now reduced her canned food by 1/8th and added 1 treat at meal times to make up a few cals. We calculate she should be getting 321 cal a day. We will do another curve on July 7th
Question
1.Is this the correct cals for a dog that should weight 12 lbs? Hills w/d
2.Is her curve acceptable?
3.Is there any more changes we could make
4.Is there a chance after reducing her cal intake that her clucose will go too low or to high.
5. How low is to low. Canadian # please
6. What is the # for a good curve I was told 13 to 6.6 range morning to night.Morning being the 13.
Thank you in advance for your help

Here is a website for calorie requirements for dogs http://www.phouka.com/dogs/dog_amount.html#cal_req

Her curve is fair. Have your veterinarian run a fructosamine level, which is a better measurement of overall average glucose level in a 24 hour period.

You might consider going to every 8 hour insulin, since the glucose levels are rising at the end of the day. We have done this successfully at the sanctuary. Alternatively, consider using a small dose of Insulin R in the afternoon when the glucose level is spiking. Work with your regular veterinarian for proper every 8 hour dosing or use of Insulin R.

Lowering her calorie intake would definitely change her curve and it would need to be carefully monitored.

In Canadian figures I would be concerned at a level below 6, and would give a teaspoon of karo syrup.
The 13 to 6.6 would be an excellent curve. In real life I have rarely seen this happen!
