I have a question about… Cushings Disease for my horse

Posted By tdomf_d6e07 On May 26, 2011 @ 4:31 PM In Ask the Vet,Tumors & Cancer | 1 Comment

I have a 28 year old palomino that has been diagnosed with Cushings disease by my vet.

The medication dose that I am now administering is 1/2 gram per day of Pergolide. The horse is approximately 500 lbs in weight.

The condition was diagnosed about 4 years ago at which time treatment began.Since the palomino seems to be holding his winter coat longer than usual, I was wondering if we should have another blood test conducted to see if we need to increase the dose size of the medication ?
Are there other options out there for treating this condition ? I appreciate whatever information you might be able to provide so we can follow treatment options in an informed manner.
