I have a question about…cataracts in a dog

We have an 11 year old poodle with a blueish circle on his eyes. He acts like he has a vision problem. Is this a cataract? Is there anything we can do other than surgery?

  • Dr. Gaylord Brown:

This may be a cataract, sclerosis of the lens, or a corneal lesion. A corneal problem would have medical options. A cataract typically is treated surgically. Your dog needs an examination to determine the diagnosis and recommended treatment.

  • I have a 4 1/2 year old rottweiler who has a lot of eye matter or yellowish discharge in its eyes. I have used antibiotic ointment but it hasn’t helped. Also has a bluish area at the corner of its eye. What could be the problems?
