My cat is sneezing and seems to be congested

My cat is sneezing and seems to be congested. I would say she has a cold. She is a house cat. She does not go outside. Do cats get colds? What can I do to relieve her cold symptoms (sneezing, congestion, and a pink to red nose that she keeps licking when she sneezes. Thank you for all your help.

  • Dr. Gaylord Brown:

Cats do get upper respiratory diseases. Such diseases may easily be airborne and do not require your cat to go outside. Many have a bacterial component that, unlike the human cold, can be treated with antibiotics. Please have your cat examined by a veterinarian to determine the proper treatment.
