I have a question about…bordetella

I do titers on all three of our dogs. Our vet was requiring my dogs to have the nasal form of Bordetella every 6 months, so that I could have them groomed there, or boarded when necessary. He has now gone with the injection form of Bordetella, which he says last for 1yr.. I do not like giving any extra vaccines! Is this exceptable or should I resist having this done. My dogs are all small, do not go to dog parks and are not around other dogs. Just want to know what I should do. Thank you, Tena

  • Dr. Gaylord Brown:

The intranasal form of bordetella offers shorter, but better immunity from infection, since it stimulates mucus membrane immunity. I agree, you have a legitimate concern over vaccinating needlessly.
