I have a question about… apocaps.
Dear Dr. Brown,
Are you familiar with a product called APOCAPS? I found them in a book called THE DOG CANCER SURVIVAL GUIDE. My beautiful Lab-Terrier mix has mid-stinal lymphoma and is currently recieving radiation and chemotherapy. This product claims to cause cancer cell death by aptosis. Our oncologist has not heard of the product and is leery about possible interaction with chemo. He wants us to wait untill chemo is finished to try somthing like this.
Have you heard of this book or product and what is your opinion?
Thanks,
Nadja Calderon

I had not heard of this product until I saw your question. I have done internet research on the product since hearing from you. What I have found is that the product, Apocaps, is a proprietary blend of a number of homeopathics we have used as adjuvant therapy. These products may be beneficial in aiding in the battle against cancer. We have personally found no interference or ill effects in using these products in conjunction with conventional cancer therapy. However, I must defer to your oncologist”s opinion to wait until the chemotherapy is over to use this product. We are currently using a product called K-9 Immunity Complex, a mushroom extract, as adjuvant therapy for all of our cancer therapies. Clinically these type of products can be difficult to assess but we feel they are helpful in our battle against cancer.
Thanks for replying Dr. Brown.
I don’t know if you would be interested in reading THE DOG CANCER SURVIVAL GUIDE but I found it to be very helpful and it has really broadened my knowledge of canine cancer and gave me some good ideas on how to battle this terrible thing that has happened to my little girl. It might help some other people dealing with the same thing.
Thanks for the heads up on the IMMUNITY COMPLEX.
I will be doing a some research on that product as well.
Anything that might help.

My basset hound is currently being treated with chemo for gastric lymphoma. So far, he is responding very well. I’m giving him K9 Immunity Plus. I read about Apocaps and didn’t get a good feeling about the product. One thing I read was that they contain soy lecithin and that it’s supposed to make cancer grow faster. Another thing I read mentioned FD&C Red #40 and that the company claimed they had stopped using that dye, but that people were still getting bottles of it with the dye. Using any kind of dye like that in a supplement to help fight cancer just seems ridiculous.
