I have a question about…an anxious beagle
My 8 year old beagle is so anxious when we leave the house that he is now daily breaking out of his metal crate and “making” all over the house. We have tried not crating him but he still poops and pees in the house. He is currently on anti anxiety medicine that doesn’t seem to help. One of his recent escapes damaged his ear and caused a hematoma which he needed surgery for. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

This is a classical case of separation anxiety. Drugs alone will never solve this problem. There must be a concerted behavior modification program. Clomicalm in combination with Dog Appeasement Pheromones has been shown to be quite helpful. Leaving a radio or television on in their area can also be helpful. A complete behavior modification plan needs to be set up to treat this problem; you need to contact a dog trainer.
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. You had some great advice that we will definitely follow. Thanks again!
