I have a question about…
Enter your question here Rabies vaccine. I have a 14 ½ year old, 77 pound, ridgeback. She is having hip/rear-leg problems and is on rimadyl ½ 75mg tablet twice a day, 225 mg denoysl tablets 3 times a day because she has higher liver enzymes now, which I believe is due to the rimadyl, and adequan 1.75 ml injection subcutaneously every two weeks. She still takes 2 short walks every day. I have been receiving the delta rescue newsletter for a long time now and have kept the one sent years ago about immunizations and not having to give them after the initial boosters. That some dogs have trouble with them. I have had her tested several times when blood was drawn for various reasons and the vet tells me her tider (??)values are fine. My concern is the rabies vaccine putting extra strain on her already overtaxed liver. My vet says it won’t. I am after a second opinion. Sharon Causer Huntington Beach, Calif

Unfortunately, there is a possibility that a vaccination can overtax an already compromised liver. Though rare, catastrophic results may ensue. It is within the professional venue of a veterinarian to issue a rabies deferment, if in their opinion, a vaccine could cause harm.
