I have a question about…

My mixed breed dog will be 16 years old soon. For approx. 3 months he’s been pooping in the house during the night or early a.m. He’s been on the same diet for approx. a decade now, but I’ve tried feeding him more in the a.m., less in the p.m., hoping this may change this undesirable pooping habit … no luck.
Do you think it may be just his age causing this suddenly. Would a change in diet or times he’s fed help?
He seems healthy otherwise and poops outside when being walked.
He’s “my baby” and I hate the thought of having him put to sleep because of this problem; as yet I haven’t discussed it with his vet. Any advice you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks.
