I have a question about…

Our dogs for several years now receive their Bordatella
shots and we are told they are good for one year. Then we take them to our vet (for any reason) and are told that they can not see them unless they are given an updated Bordatella shot since the shots are only good for six months.
Would you please explain what this is all about?
Thank you.

Vaccines for bordetella are generally only recommended for dogs at high risk of coming in contact with the disease. Specifically, it is recommended prior to boarding. The duration of good protection depends on the type of vaccine. The intranasal vaccines are believed to give the best, but shortest, immunity and should be given every six months. Injected vaccines are believed to last one year , but the immunity is not as good. Frankly, most veterinarians do not require this vaccine to visit their office.
