Major signs are excessive thirst, excessive urination, ravenous appetite with weight loss. The most common treatment is with insulin injections that the owner administers themselves. For some very old cats oral hypoglycemic medications may be used with success. We have used both with success at DELTA Rescue. Unfortunately, untreated cases can have serious consequences. including liver failure and death.
