help with an aggressive young cat
We live with our 7 rescued stray and former feral cats who get along just fine. This past summer, we found and brought home two older kittens/younger cats (not sure of their age) who were emaciated, abandoned, and covered in some sort of detergent. (They were just pitiful.) Dobby and Lyra are healthy and happy now, but Dobby wants to attack three of our cats who show fear and hiss at him. (He gets along fine with the others who ignore him.) If it were just a matter of hissing, it would be OK, but he goes after these three in such an aggressive way, we’ve been juggling them all and keeping them separate so that no one gets hurt. We don’t want our previous rescues to feel terrified in their own home. We have tried the Rescue Remedy our vet suggested, but it had no effect on Dobby. Friends have had success with Prozac in similar situations. What would you recommend?

We have had some success with amitriptylline in these situations as well. However, we also accommodate such cats with living quarters that contain those cats that get along with each other. If the drug therapy does not work I would urge you to set up different rooms for cats that get along with each other.
Thank you so much for your speedy reply. We will discuss this with our vet when we meet with her later this week. Fingers crossed for a resolution that will leave all of our cats feeling happy and safe.
