Heart Disease

I have an 11 yr. old dog with a heart murmur and her latest x-ray showed a small section which was enlarged on the lower right side of her heart. Should she see a specialist right away for medication? How dangerous is this if not taken care of ASAP? Also, can she go out in the cold weather or will it affect her heart?
Thank you for caring so much for the animals.

Even without a specialist the dog could be started on some basic treatment. The use of enalapril, pimobendan, and furosemide can all be safely prescribed by a general practitioner. They will all help heart disease symptoms and can act to prolong both quality and length of life. Certainly she will be more suceptible to stress with a heart problem and should be provided warm shelter.
