my 13 year old poodle has a enlarge heart,fluid on his lungs and heartworms in the third stage.he is on lasix and coughs alot. the vet wants to start his heartworm treatment.can he survive the treatment, did the heartworms cause his heart to enlarge. his name is bambam, he is a loyal friend.

Bambam will surely die if not treated. There may be permanent damage to the heart muscle, but medications should help this. No one can guarantee success, but I believe you should proceed with the heartworm treatment.
