Dear Dr. Gaylord Brown: Our dog for the past several weeks refuses to eat his dry food. We have changed to Rachel Ray pet food which has not helped. The dog is healthy, had his shots a couple of weeks ago and a blood test. If we mix caned food he will eat it and the dry food, sometimes.
What do you suggest we could do to help him eat his dry food?
P.S. He is a springer and seven years old.

Mixing the canned food in with the dry food is generally effective. Dry food is not required for good health. Canned food is fine, but if he has always eaten dry food before and is now not eating it, there may be an undetected health problem. Discuss your concerns with the veterinarian who ran the blood tests and see if there are additional recommendations.
