Be sure to wear protective clothing to keep the smell off of you! Next, shampoo with any regular dog shampoo and rinse well. Then completely cover the dog in tomato juice, making sure the juice gets down to the skin all over the dog. Allow the dog to soak in the juice for 20 minutes. Rinse well and repeat with the tomato juice. Rinse and repeat the shampoo then soak in one of a number of odor eliminator products; such as FON, feline odor eliminator designed to remove the smell of tom cat urine, or K.O.E., kennel odor eliminator. Soak in these products for 20 minutes, rinse, and shampoo again. This is the most effective method I know of to get rid of skunk smell. By the time you are done, the smell will have permeated your nasal sinuses to the point you will think the smell will never go away! It will dissipate in time.
