Bringing an outdoor cat into an established kitty household
We have an outside cat that we would like to bring into our home with our 5 inside only cats. We will be moving next month but he is part of the family and we don’t want to leave him. We are planning to take him to the vet to protect our inside cats but what do we need to have him checked for? We want to bring him in as soon as he is cleared by the vet but should we bring him in here at the apartment and then move everyone or wait and bring him in at the new house when we move the others in? He belonged to a neighbor as in indoor only cat and escaped when they were moving. He has really bonded with us. He lives on our patio, lets us pet and handle him. The only reason we haven’t already integrated him is because we were unable to get him to a vet and didn’t want to risk the health of our inside cats. Looking for advice/help as to the best way to handle this situation. Thank You

Have the cat tested for FeLV, FIV, and FIP sp ab. When we introduce a new cat into a population we place into a cat condo into the room where the other cats live. After a week to ten days we open the door of the condo, but live it in the room so the new cat can retreat into it if needed. Usually after a week or so we take out the condo.
