Best food for a 12yr old diabetic cat?
Doctor, I have been feeding my 19lb diabetic cat the Hills M/D diet food that my vet suggested but the cat won’t eat it unless I give him some Fancy Feast with it. The M/D is costly and has corn gluten meal in it. Vet said he has to be on the lowest carb diet. I have been giving him insulin twice daily for a year now. He is at least 12yrs old and gets 7 units of insulin per injection. What do you suggest?

If you are feeding Fancy Feast anyway, you are defeating the purpose of the M/D. For our diabetic cats we continue to feed their regular food and adjust the insulin dose according to what and how much they eat. Your veterinarian should teach you how to monitor your cat’s blood sugar level at home so you can adjust his insulin dose.
