Licking and pulling out hair

He is in good health. When he licks he also starts to pull out his hair. Vets have checked his skin etc. Our vet says that he just might have a habit like we have biting our nails. Find clumps of hair at times around the house. Just doesnt seem normal. Thank you

Sounds like atopy to me. At the sanctuary we would do allergy testing on this pet. We use Heska, but there are other allergy testing companies available. Behavioral excess licking can occur, but it is a diagnosis of exclusion. If behavioral there are medications we use, such as amitriptyline to alleviate the self mutilation.
