Our almost 16 1/2 year old Manx cat has been battling this URI for the last 2 months

It started as a seasonal allergy (where he was prescribed a 1/4 to 1/2 of anti-histamine a day).  In April, he was fine and his blood work was good.  Then, he started having phlegm in May & nasal discharge in June.  Moreover, for the last 3 weeks, he’s so dried up though we’ve been giving him the 200 ml of fluids daily.  Last week, his regular Vet prescribed prednisone for 5 days & it dried up his nose, however, his body is still dried up & dehydrated ~ when you pull on his skin there is no looseness at all.  He loves sitting & sleeping next to the vaporizer but it gets too hot that our other cats (almost 19 & 14 years old) got lethargic.  How will you suggest to keep our 16 1/2 year old Manx cat to stay hydrated besides getting the daily fluids?

At the Sanctuary we employ subcutaneous fluid administration in those patients with chronic and age related illnesses. We use lactated ringers twice daily at a dose of 120 ml twice a day. Chronic sinus conditions are not uncommon. We will also use an antibiotic nose drop and a nasal syringe like a “Neti Pot” to flush the nasal passages.
