Feral cats that roam around in my yard and the weather is getting colder

I have some feral cats that roam around in my yard and the area surrounding it (some of it is wooded). My question is now that the weather is getting colder will these animals die. I live in New Jersey. I first started seeing them in the spring so there was no problem of cold then. I contacted the animal shelter and they said they would trap them but they want to put them down and I just can’t do that before I know everything. Thanks for your help.

The best solution is to trap the cats and place them in a shelter that will spay and neuter them and provide long term care. You could set up a garage for them to live in if necessary. Without shelter I doubt that they would survive a New Jersey winter. You can borrow traps from most animal shelters. Many veterinarians participate in feral spay neuter programs that you could take the cats to then return them to your garage.
